Late Tuesday evening in Rostov-on-Don, another tank exploded at the oil loading terminal of the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery (refinery), which had previously been attacked by drones, according to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+.
The fire has already engulfed 8 of the 12 storage tanks, and firefighters have been unable to extinguish it for four days, writes Astra. Footage from the scene shows burning tanks with plumes of black smoke rising above them. The “Rostov Glavny” channel reported that on October 13 at 11:50 p.m., “something flared up across the entire sky and went out on the Left Bank,” and accompanied the post with a photo of the explosion at the refinery. The total capacity of the terminal’s tank farm is 60,000 cubic meters.
Drones attacked the Novoshakhtinsky Oil Refinery (formerly “Yug Rusi”) terminal in the Zheleznodorozhny District of Rostov on the night of October 10. NASA’s FIRMS satellite service detected the fire. As of Wednesday morning, authorities had not reported that the fire had been extinguished. The terminal, capable of shipping 3.5 million metric tons of products per year, handled the transshipment of petroleum products to sea and river tankers for export and was used to supply fuel to the Russian army.
The governor of the Rostov Region Yuri Slyusar stated that on the night of October 14, the region came under a massive drone attack. According to him, more than 160 drones were shot down in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and eight districts. Slyusar did not report on any casualties or damage on the ground.
Meanwhile, according to an order from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, since October 11, at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not been striking Russian oil refineries as part of an “energy truce,” which Moscow has yet to confirm it is observing.
