Putin Calls An Emergency Meeting On Cybersecurity

Peskov assured that this was allegedly unrelated to the attacks on Russian data centers.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting with members of the government on the topic of cybersecurity, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday, clarifying that the meeting is not related to attacks on Russian data centers.

In addition to members of the Russian government, the meeting will be attended by, among others, the first deputy head of Putin’s administration Sergey Kirienko, Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, Elvira Nabiullina, head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, he said.

In recent weeks Yandex and Sberbank data centers have been subjected to drone attacks, leading to disruptions in internet services across the country.

“The issue of cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly pressing item on the agenda,” Peskov said.

“Artificial intelligence technologies bring many benefits, offer many advantages, and increase efficiency, but at the same time, of course, attempts by a number of states to use these new technologies to turn them into weapons—the so-called ‘weaponization’ of artificial intelligence—pose and harbor threats to entire sectors of any country’s economy.”
