The dictator became flustered after NATO's plan for a war with Russia was made public.
Alexander Lukashenko has made personnel appointments within the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces. He signed the relevant decrees on October 14.
Major General Vadim Surov has been appointed Deputy Minister of Defense. He has been relieved of his duties as commander of the Western Operational Command of the Armed Forces.
Major General Vladimir Kupriyanuk has been appointed First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. He has been relieved of his duties as head of the Main Intelligence Directorate—Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Colonel Alexey Khuzakhmetov has been appointed to that position.
Colonel Sergey Tomchik has been appointed head of the Main Military Inspectorate of the Armed Forces.
Colonel Andrei Folynskov has been appointed First Deputy Chief of Armaments of the Armed Forces—Chief of the Armaments Staff.
In addition, in accordance with Lukashenko’s order, Major General of Police Sergei Doroshko has been retired from service in the internal affairs agencies due to age, with the right to wear the prescribed uniform and insignia.
As a reminder, at a meeting with military officials on October 13, Lukashenko commented on the frequent and intensive combat readiness inspections of military units of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
“There is no state of emergency here. I have said frankly and honestly that we are preparing for war in order to avoid it. We have no intention of attacking anyone, despite the recent media campaign launched by our Western ‘friends’ claiming that Russia will attack the Baltic states and, at the very least, possibly Poland from Belarusian territory and in conjunction with Belarus,” Lukashenko stated.
He also called reports by some foreign media outlets claiming that Belarus allegedly intends to “break through the Suwałki Corridor toward the Kaliningrad Region” “utter nonsense.”
