The fire broke out after reports of a rocket attack.
Late in the evening on October 14, explosions rocked the Russian town of Borisoglebsk in the Voronezh Region, followed by a massive fire. A local military airfield was hit.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing OSINT sources.
According to locals, the explosions occurred amid a missile alert. A major fire is raging at the scene; the extent of the damage is being assessed.
The airfield is home to the 783rd Aviation Training Center and units of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division. The division flies the Su-34, Su-35, and Su-30SM, which the Russians use to strike Ukraine, in particular with guided bombs.
This past summer, there were no combat aircraft permanently stationed at the airfield. The airfield served as a staging area: here, aircraft were refueled and loaded with munitions before flying to Ukraine.
Strikes against Russian rear areas have continued for several nights in a row. On the night of October 14, dozens of explosions rocked Balakovo in the Saratov Region of the Russian Federation, followed by a fire. Sberbank’s megadata center, one of the largest in Russia, was hit.
