To help Ukraine.
Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs believes that, to help Ukraine, every European Union resident need only donate an amount equivalent to the cost of one bottle of beer per year.
He made this statement during a press briefing in Brussels on Thursday, October 15, according to Delfi.
During his conversation with the media, Kulbergs emphasized the need to support Ukraine and to tighten sanctions against Russia.
He also urged people to think less about their own comfort, reminding them that supporting Ukraine comes at a cost.
Specifically, the Latvian prime minister suggested that every European drink one pint less of beer per year, thereby saving money that could be provided as aid to Ukraine.
“Europeans should drink one beer less per year. We can afford it. Ukraine needs this money right now. That one beer is just an expense, but for Ukraine, it’s a matter of life and death.
If we drink less, lives will be saved there. It’s that simple,” said Kulbergs.
In early October, it was reported that, in response to Ukraine’s request for support, the Latvian government approved the shipment of humanitarian aid from the Latvian healthcare sector to Ukraine—medical equipment for patient care and emergency treatment, as well as ambulances.
In addition, the Latvian Ministry of Economy, supplementing its earlier decision to purchase diesel generators for the Chernihiv region, will allocate the remaining funds to purchase 12 more diesel generators.
