Zelenskyy: Russia Has Dealt One Of The Most Devastating Blows To Ukraine's Energy Sector

More than 15 key power generation and transmission facilities were attacked.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that one of the largest recent attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure had taken place.

“Yesterday, the Russians launched one of the most powerful strikes against Ukraine’s energy sector: more than 15 critical power generation and transmission facilities in various regions of Ukraine were attacked,” Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel.

The President of Ukraine noted that restoration work is continuing with the involvement of all necessary services and the available resources of Ukrainian energy companies.

“The most difficult situation has developed in Lutsk, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Shepetivka, Slavuta, and Netishyn. Strikes were also carried out against the energy infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and other regions. The Russians have scaled up their anti-energy operation and are attempting to deplete our reserves and restoration capabilities as much as possible,” he said.

Zelenskyy specified that from 7:00 p.m. the previous day until 7:00 a.m., Russian troops had deployed more than 320 drones—including jet-powered variants—against Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure, as well as loitering munitions, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.

According to him, despite the interception of a significant portion of the aerial targets, the sheer scale and continuous nature of Russian strikes on the energy sector are leading to serious consequences.
