Lukashenko's Military Spending Rose By 186%

  • 17.10.2026, 19:08

This is the most significant increase in budget spending, both in absolute and relative terms.

The Belarusian government’s spending under the “national defense” category has increased by 186% over the past five years. Comparing the national budgets for 2022 and 2027, the allocated funding for the military has risen from 1.812 billion rubles to 5.2 billion. Compared to all other expenditure categories, this represents the most significant increase in both absolute and relative terms, according to “Euroradio”.

Since 2022, the budget for law enforcement agencies has increased by 141%, Lukashenko’s security services by 160.2%, and the State Security Committee by 153%.

Meanwhile, the budget for the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Internal Troops has increased 3.5-fold over these five years—from 195.4 million to 698.1 million rubles.

However, growth in “social spending” has not been as rapid as in “security spending.” For example, in 2027, 103% more will be allocated from the national budget for education than in 2022, and 107% more for healthcare.

Interesting fact: although the authorities have been particularly concerned about the demographic situation in Belarus, funding for the “assistance to parents raising children” category has decreased by nearly 26% over five years (from 379.7 to 281.5 million rubles).
