A Renovated Monument To Kościuszko Was Unveiled In Switzerland

The monument is mounted on a boulder from Belarus.

A restored monument to Tadeusz Kościuszko, the leader of the 1794 uprising in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, was unveiled in the Swiss city of Solothurn, where he spent the final years of his life. A boulder brought from Belarus was used as the pedestal for the statue, according to the Telegram channel “Basta!”.

Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora and former political prisoners gathered at the monument’s unveiling.

Andrei Voinich, coordinator of the “European Belarus” civic campaign, addressed the participants.

“We are currently going through a period similar to one that has already occurred in Belarusian history,” he said. “That same cannibalistic regime of the Russian Empire is the main enemy of Belarus and Belarusians today. It supports another cannibalistic regime—the Lukashenko regime—which is destroying culture, historical memory, and everything connected with Belarus and Belarusians.

And it is very important that Belarusians are uniting all over the world, even at small gatherings. As long as we remember who we are, we will remain Belarusians, and we have a future—a future in our country.

Sooner or later, we will come together and build the true Belarus we dream of.
The battlefield where the future of Europe—and, consequently, Belarus—is being decided today is Ukraine.

I call on everyone to support the Belarusian fighters in Ukraine, to support independent bloggers who work around the world and cover issues in Belarus and the situation of Belarusians in Ukraine and Belarusians worldwide, as well as independent media outlets.”
