The package consists of 54 contracts.
Government agencies and companies from Uzbekistan and the United States signed a package of 54 agreements worth $12 billion. This was reported by the press office of the Uzbek Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade.
The press service specified that the agreements cover trade, investment, and technological cooperation. The agreements are aimed at modernizing the republic’s industrial, transportation, and energy infrastructure; developing critically important mineral resources; and advancing the financial sector, digital technologies, agriculture, healthcare, and education, the press service noted.
For example, GE Aerospace will supply engines for Uzbekistan Airways’ new aircraft. Wabtec will supply locomotives, as well as handle their maintenance, manufacture components, and provide staff training.
“In the mining industry, collaboration with ReElement Technologies, Traxys, and Trafigura involves the exploration and development of deposits, technological cooperation, and the supply of mineral resources. Particular importance is placed on developing national capabilities in the field of critical minerals,” the statement reads.
On October 18, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Samarkand with his wife. On Monday, a meeting was held between the heads of the foreign ministries of the United States and the Central Asian countries in the C5+1 format (a mechanism for collective cooperation between the U.S. and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan).
Representatives from more than 400 companies from Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries participated in the business program in Samarkand. Of these, over 100 were American organizations.
