The City Defense Council will hold an emergency meeting at lunchtime today due to the traffic situation on the bridges in Kyiv.

According to RBC-Ukraine, this was announced by the spokesperson for the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) Kateryna Pop during a televised marathon.

She noted that the Paton Bridge is open to traffic in both directions. However, it is only possible to get from the right bank to the left bank via the entrance from Mykola Mikhnovsky Boulevard. The other entrances to the bridge are temporarily closed.

The restrictions were imposed due to the need to assess the condition of the infrastructure following several strikes on the South Bridge.

“Following several strikes on the South Bridge, the bridge pier, guardrail, road surface, and the metro’s protective concrete slab have been damaged. An assessment of the damage is currently underway; all necessary data will be submitted to a meeting of the Capital’s Defense Council, which will convene on an emergency basis as early as noon,” Pop noted.

Meeting participants are expected to make a decision on organizing traffic across Kyiv’s bridges, taking into account the new security risks.

Officials will also discuss changes to the city’s transportation plan and the possibility of compensating for the restrictions through ground-based public transportation.

“All options will be reviewed by the Defense Council. We expect detailed information on traffic across the bridges for the coming week,” the CMVA spokesperson noted.

As a reminder, last night Russian troops attacked the South Bridge again. The previous evening, a strike on the bridge damaged a support pillar, the road surface, and the subway’s protective barrier.
