Trump's envoy outlined the conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine
At a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, U.S. envoy Steve Whitcoff stated that a ceasefire could be achieved.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.
It has been reported that he brought documents to St. Petersburg outlining the terms of a ceasefire in Ukraine.
“We have brought some documents outlining certain approaches to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine; I would ask you to review these documents. I would also like to have Kushner join us by phone later,” he added.
According to him, the conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine are in place. Whitcoff is also expected to brief the Kremlin leader on the results of the meeting in Oslo.
“I hope you will consider the possibility of resuming trilateral talks involving the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia. These could involve representatives from technical working groups. Even if no decision on this matter is made today, it would be good to discuss it,” he told Putin.
As a reminder, Steve Whitcoff arrived in St. Petersburg on October 21.
According to Russian media reports, his plane landed in the morning at Pulkovo Airport, where he was met by Putin’s representative Kirill Dmitriev. The U.S. side has not yet commented on the visit.
Whitcoff and Dmitriev traveled to the Konstantinovsky Palace for talks. Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said that the main topic would be the war against Ukraine. Jared Kushner did not travel to Russia due to illness but will likely join the talks online.
The day before in Oslo, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Trump’s negotiators.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who participated in the talks, said that the parties had identified elements of a peaceful settlement, which will be presented in St. Petersburg.
