Bloomberg: Ukraine Has Become More Effective At Striking Targets Deep Inside Russia

The unit deemed key to successful attacks has been identified.
Ukraine has stepped up long-range strikes against Russian oil refineries, gas terminals, military facilities, and ships. This has been facilitated by the development of its own weaponry, satellite imagery, and intelligence data.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
The Kairos unit has become one of the key players in the expansion of such operations. Its efforts have enabled Ukraine to increase pressure on Russian military infrastructure and maritime logistics.
As Bloomberg notes, Ukraine’s long-range capabilities have increased significantly compared to last year.
Whereas strike vehicles were previously capable of carrying out missions at a range of approximately 100 km, Ukraine now uses small and relatively inexpensive cruise missiles capable of striking targets deep within Russia and in temporarily occupied territories.
How Ukraine Is Improving the Effectiveness of Its Strikes
Operational planning involves the use of detailed maps, an intelligence network, and satellite imagery provided by Western partners. Energy sector specialists are also brought in to help identify vulnerabilities at industrial facilities.
In particular, in September, Kairos, along with other units, set a fire at an oil refinery near Moscow. While preparing the strike, the military analyzed not only current satellite imagery but also archived images to identify changes to the facility and refine their targets.
At the same time, during strikes on Russian territory, the Ukrainian military cannot use Starlink as a communication channel—the service is disabled there.
For such operations, they use both remotely piloted drones and cruise missiles, pre-programmed to fly to a specific target.
What results has Ukraine achieved
According to the publication, the expansion of long-range strike capabilities has been accompanied by an increase in attacks on Russian oil refineries, gas terminals, tankers in the Black Sea, and military facilities.
The results of Kairos’s work have allowed the unit to expand from a battalion to the 7th Unmanned Systems Center. It is now a large organization with hundreds of military personnel that can command other units.
The Russian economy is also feeling the impact of the strikes on distant targets. According to Bloomberg, consumers in Russia are facing shortages and rising prices, while damage to data centers is disrupting internet traffic and commerce.
