The Issue Of An Age-based Pension Supplement Has Stirred Up Emotions Among Belarusians

It turns out not everyone will receive it.

In Belarus, the age-based pension supplement is granted automatically; however, not all retirees who have reached the age of 75 or 80 are eligible to receive it. Social services have explained who is eligible for this payment and in what cases it is not granted, according to Myfin.by.

When Does the Supplement Begin?

The clarification was prompted by a question from a pensioner who turned 75 on June 10, 2026: “I know that citizens like me are entitled to a supplement. I didn’t receive it in June. Why?”

As explained by Elena Minina, head of the Department of Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Chechersk District Executive Committee, the age-based supplement is indeed automatically granted to non-working retirees who have reached the age of 75. There is no need to apply for it.

However, payments do not begin in the month the person turns 75, but rather the following month. Therefore, if a retiree turned 75 in June, the supplement will be paid starting in July.

How Much Is Paid

Age-based supplements are tied to the minimum old-age pension (MOP).

For retirees aged 75 to 79, the supplement amounts to 75% of the minimum old-age pension.

Upon reaching age 80, the age-based supplement increases to 100% of the MPV.

From August 1 through October 31, 2026, the amount of the age-based supplement is as follows:

for retirees aged 75–79 — 99.44 rubles;

for retirees aged 80 and older — 132.59 rubles.

Who Is Not Eligible for the Supplement

Age alone does not guarantee receipt of this payment. The supplement is not granted to:

working retirees;
individuals receiving state support in state social service institutions that provide inpatient social care;

pensioners residing outside Belarus;

individuals in places of deprivation of liberty.

Thus, if a person has reached the age of 75 but continues to work, the age-based supplement is not granted to them.

For a non-working retiree, it is granted automatically, but payments begin only in the month following the month in which the person reaches the relevant age.
