The Serbian Progressive Party reported the incident.
On October 25, the day of Serbia’s early parliamentary elections, a group of unknown assailants attacked Angelina Vučić, the mother of the country’s former president Aleksandar Vučić, who is running for prime minister. This was reported by stated the Serbian Progressive Party, led by Vučić. He also heads the “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia” electoral list.
Party officials reported that a group of young people, “supporters of the blockade,” shoved Angelina Vučić, shouted at her, and tore open the bags of groceries she was carrying from the market. The SPS condemned this behavior, calling it an unacceptable act of aggression, humiliation, and intimidation.
“No mother, no grandmother, and no woman should be the target of violence because of political differences! There is no justification for aggression against a woman who became the target of the blockade participants simply because she is the mother of Aleksandar Vučić,” the statement reads.
The party demands an immediate and decisive response from the competent authorities, a thorough investigation into all the circumstances of this incident, and that all those involved be held accountable. Angelina Vučić reported the attack to the police; the SPS expects law enforcement to act without delay, professionally, and in accordance with the law.
The SPS added that the attack was directed not only at Vučić’s mother, but also at the values upheld by every society that respects women, mothers, and the right to a dignified life.
“Therefore, we expect all political actors to unequivocally condemn this act—without excuses, political calculations, or double standards. Serbia must not allow itself to become a country where violence and hatred replace dialogue and political struggle. Serbia is stronger than hatred and any attempts to achieve political goals through intimidation and aggression,” the press service emphasized.
