The decision rests with the citizens of both countries.
The new Romanian Prime Minister Luca Niculescu believes that a possible unification of Moldova with Romania depends on the will of the citizens of both countries.
Niculescu made this statement in an interview TVR Moldova during a visit to Chisinau.
The prime minister emphasized that the current priority is to strengthen relations between the two countries and bring Moldova closer to the European Union.
“There are many ties between our countries, and, of course, this is a discussion that is taking place and can continue even in some difficult situations. I state very clearly that this will happen when the citizens of both countries want it to. For now, we are striving to bring Romania closer to the Republic of Moldova, and even more so—to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union—to build these bridges and forge ties between us,” Niculescu said.
