The U.S. president announced "significant progress."
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is looking forward to a meeting soon with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing a broadcast of his conversation with journalists.
Trump told reporters on the morning of October 28 that there has been significant progress in relations between Washington and Moscow in the context of the war in Ukraine.
“And I think we’ve made significant progress in our relations with Russia—in the context of Russia and Ukraine. A meeting will take place soon, and, in my opinion, significant progress has been made,” the U.S. leader stated.
When asked by a reporter to clarify exactly which meeting he was referring to, Trump said:
“A meeting with President Putin and President Zelenskyy. And I think we’ll make significant progress,” he added.
The day before, on October 27, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Stere held a phone conversation with Putin regarding ending the war against Ukraine.
Afterward, they also spoke with Zelenskyy. One of the topics was the upcoming negotiations involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia.
As previously reported, trilateral talks at the technical level are planned to take place in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November.
An agreement to resume these talks was announced following preliminary diplomatic contacts.
At the same time, this does not mean that a meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy, and Putin has already been finalized: Trump did not specify a specific date for the leaders’ summit in the statement.
