According to Lukashenko supporters, the holiday is “linked to dark forces.”
On the eve of Halloween, Belarusian officials have once again taken up the fight against this holiday. A letter from the Kobrin District Executive Committee was leaked to the public; in it, the heads of institutions are advised to refrain from holding themed events during this time, not to display pumpkins, not to hang spiderwebs or masks on doors, and to remove any announcements or advertisements for the holiday from social media, as noted by the website Charter97.org.
The authorities justify their demands by claiming that Halloween is allegedly associated with “dark forces,” promotes aggression and antisocial behavior, and runs counter to the historical, cultural, and spiritual traditions of Belarusians.
