The ceremony took place today in Grozny.
The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who supports Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, was awarded the rank of general of the army and presented with a maroon beret. This is reported by Russian media, according to Dialog.UA.
The director of the Federal Service of National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation (commander-in-chief of the Russian National Guard), Viktor Zolotov, presented Kadyrov with the epaulets of an army general and a maroon beret. The ceremony to present the epaulets took place on Saturday, October 3, in Grozny.
Until now, Kadyrov held the rank of colonel general. Dictator Putin conferred this rank on him in October 2022. Now the head of Chechnya, who actively supports the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian occupation army, holds Russia’s highest military rank.
It is not specified exactly why Putin awarded Kadyrov the highest military rank. The Kremlin order merely states that it was conferred as “the next military rank for a senior officer.”
Ramzan Kadyrov first became a major general of the police in the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2009, and when he transferred to Putin’s National Guard, he retained that rank. Subsequently, he received military ranks as part of his general military service.
