In Novomoskovsk, Tula Oblast, a participant in the war against Ukraine Roman Syromyatnikov was killed in a car explosion; Ukrainian authorities had accused him of involvement in the torture of prisoners of war. The “Novomoskovsk Today” portal reported his death. According to the Cheka-OGPU, the incident occurred on October 2. Unidentified individuals planted an explosive device under the underside of the vehicle on the driver’s side. After the explosion, a large number of security forces, including Rosgvardia officers, arrived at the scene.
Syromyatnikov served in the parachute-assault company of the 51st Regiment of the 106th Tula Airborne Division. According to Exilenova+, he was wanted in Ukraine. Supernova+ reports that Ukrainian authorities accused him of torturing Ukrainian prisoners of war. In October 2025, he was added to the “Mirotvorets” database. After returning from the war, Syromyatnikov worked as a teacher and regularly told children about his students’ participation in the aggression against Ukraine.
Attacks on Russian military personnel had occurred in Russia before, recalls The Moscow Times. On August 27 in St. Petersburg, a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and Air Defense unit was killed in a car explosion while traveling with his wife. On August 13, in annexed Sevastopol, Captain 1st Rank Robert Shageev was killed in an explosion.
And on August 1, an explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant in Moscow killed five people. At that time, the target of the assassination attempt may have been General Alexander Chaiko, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, whom Ukrainian authorities accuse of involvement in crimes in Bucha. Later, funerals were held in Moscow for Major General Valery Plokhotnyuk and Chaiko’s son-in-law Daniil Peredrya, who were killed on the same day. According to an Astra source, the general’s daughter, Maria, sustained multiple shrapnel wounds at the time. No information was reported regarding Chaiko’s condition following the incident.
