To "boost budget revenue."
Belarus plans to expand the list of vehicles subject to a transportation tax. The country intends to include small vessels on the list. This potential change is provided for in a draft amendment to the Tax Code, as reported by the “House of Representatives.”
“To boost budget revenue, it is proposed to take steps to create a database for registering small vessels with the aim of subjecting them to a transportation tax starting in 2029,” — officials at the “Chamber” stated.
In other words, officials want to first create a database of such vessels so that they can levy taxes on their owners in the future.
The draft amendments to the Tax Code stipulate that, starting January 1, 2029, the Ministry of Emergency Situations must provide the Ministry of Taxes and Levies with information on small vessels and their owners. This data must be submitted annually.
The plan is to subsequently impose taxes on such vessels. An exception will be made for rowing boats, kayaks, and inflatable boats with a load capacity of less than 225 kg—no taxes will be levied on them. This means that motorboats, speedboats, and other small vessels could be subject to this tax.
