Air Defense Systems Were Spotted Near Trump's Residence In Florida

These systems are designed to intercept enemy missiles and aircraft flying at low altitudes.

Two Avenger anti-aircraft systems have been deployed near U.S. President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. They were installed on a floating barge near the estate following a warning from the U.S. Secret Service about an elevated threat level. This was reported by The Telegraph.

“The U.S. Secret Service is operating under heightened threat conditions, and we are constantly adapting our security measures by implementing the most advanced tools, technologies, and methods to ensure the safety of the individuals we protect,” said a U.S. Secret Service spokesperson.

As noted, the Avenger systems are equipped with short-range missiles mounted on Humvees and are designed to intercept aerial threats and low-flying aircraft. Similar systems were spotted in August when Trump was playing golf at his course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

At the request of the U.S. Secret Service, the airspace over Mar-a-Lago is closed while Trump is there. The agency is also seeking a permanent flight ban over the area due to “adverse intelligence regarding threats,” including “terrorist threats.” This is evidenced by federal court documents cited by the publication.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Secret Service, which protects high-ranking officials, particularly the president and vice president, warned that the number of threats against those under its protection had risen by 40% compared to the same period last year.

“Today’s threat environment is tense, real, and fluid. The aerial threat to Mar-a-Lago is persistent and significant. Since this residence is one of the President’s primary places of residence, from which he frequently performs his duties as head of state, this threat must be minimized as much as possible, regardless of whether he is there at any given moment,” wrote U.S. Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn in a court document as part of the agency’s effort to impose a permanent air traffic restriction around Mar-a-Lago.

Threats and Violations of Flight Restrictions

The U.S. conflict with Iran is considered one of the main reasons for the increased threat level. At the same time, as the publication notes, Trump has survived several assassination attempts by U.S. citizens in recent years.

Officials previously reported that since the start of Trump’s second presidential term, dozens of aircraft have been intercepted in the West Palm Beach area for violating temporary flight restrictions. Most of them were small single-engine aircraft whose pilots were unaware of these restrictions.

Schedule Changes

Earlier this week, Donald Trump canceled planned campaign events in Iowa and Kansas, replacing them with virtual appearances. Vice President J.D. Vance also unexpectedly canceled a scheduled press conference in Minnesota.

The U.S. Secret Service did not respond to questions about whether these decisions were related to an elevated threat level. The White House also declined to comment.

As the authors note, some observers viewed the cancellation of Trump’s trips as a retreat ahead of the midterm congressional elections. However, following criticism, the president appears to have reversed his decision: according to a source cited by The Telegraph, he will visit Iowa and Kansas on Sunday after all.
