A meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected.

On the morning of Sunday, October 4, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. He is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This was reported by Deutsche Welle.

“I came to Kyiv today because Ukraine needs our support in the coming weeks. If Russia isn’t stopped, its war machine will sooner or later turn against us,” Merz said at the train station after arriving.

He also noted that Ukrainians will soon face their fifth winter of war. In particular, Russia continues to bomb cities, residential buildings, and thermal power plants. At the same time, the chancellor emphasized that the Ukrainians cannot be broken.

In addition, the German official announced a meeting with Zelenskyy and said he would assure him of continued support.

“Our partnership is a two-way street. German and Ukrainian companies are jointly developing technologies that benefit both countries. This makes us more secure and stronger,” he concluded.

It should be noted that this is Merz’s first visit to Ukraine since May 2025. Upon his arrival, he was met by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
