Belarusians Were Told About A "Surprise" When Crossing The Street

It turns out that traffic police officers aren't the only ones who can issue fines.

For crossing the street in an unauthorized place, a pedestrian may receive a warning or be fined between 1 and 3 base units. Not only traffic police inspectors are authorized to issue citations for this violation. This rule also applies to law enforcement officers while they are on duty, according to “Gantsavitski Chas”.

Who Can Issue a Citation

Traffic police inspectors, district police officers, and patrol officers can issue citations. Other law enforcement officers also have these powers. This right is enshrined in the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Law “On Law Enforcement Agencies.”

When a warning is sufficient

A warning may be sufficient if a person has crossed the street in an unauthorized place for the first time. The pedestrian must admit guilt and agree not to have charges filed against them. If the violation is deemed more serious, the fine will range from 3 to 5 base units.

One such circumstance is if the pedestrian is intoxicated. In this case, the fine may be higher than usual. The specific range is from 3 to 5 base units.

Refusal Can Also Lead to Charges

Refusal to comply with a lawful demand from a law enforcement officer may result in charges of disobedience. The officer must issue such a demand while performing their official duties. Liability arises specifically for refusing to comply with such a demand.
