The funds will be allocated to interceptor drones, long-range weapons, and the energy sector.
Germany will provide Ukraine with a new aid package totaling more than 1.3 billion euros. This was announced on Sunday by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following their meeting and at a joint press conference, according to the "Interfax-Ukraine".
The majority of the funds—more than one billion euros—will go toward military aid. According to Merz, Berlin will finance the joint production of drones designed to shoot down jet-powered drones. The chancellor noted that significant technological breakthroughs have been achieved in this area in recent weeks, and the developments are now being rapidly scaled up to mass production.
In addition, Germany will supply Ukraine with long-range weapons, attack drones, and satellite equipment. As Merz explained, this is necessary so that the Ukrainian military can more effectively destroy Russian launchers.
Another 350 million euros will be allocated to the energy sector. This funding will be used to purchase generators, transformer substations, and repair kits to restore damaged infrastructure. According to the chancellor, this aid should mitigate the effects of Russian attacks on the power grid and support Ukrainians this winter.
Zelenskyy clarified that during the meeting, the parties signed 15 agreements and documents. Most of them concern cooperation in the areas of security, manufacturing, procurement, Ukrainian orders for German industry, and joint projects on Ukrainian territory. According to the Ukrainian president’s estimate, the total value of the agreements exceeds 8.5 billion euros. Among other things, a separate agreement was signed that expands the two countries’ capabilities to jointly combat drones. The parties also discussed Ukraine’s need for air defense systems.
