U.S. President Donald Trump promised to pay “nearly $100” to more than 20 million retirees with Medicare. He posted this on the social media platform Truth Social. Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people over the age of 65.

The White House later confirmed this information. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) clarified that those eligible for the one-time payment will receive the amount via direct deposit or check this month.

As NBC News noted, “this is yet another payment the president promised Americans ahead of the congressional elections.” Earlier this week, he announced that about 1 million people with ACA health insurance would receive $500 each. In the same post regarding payments to Medicare beneficiaries, Mr. Trump also reiterated his promise to pay every adult American $5,000 if the Republican Party wins the congressional elections in November.
