A Belarusian company loaded 30,000 metric tons of granular potassium chloride in St. Petersburg.

The U.S. is set to receive its first shipment of Belarusian potash in four years within the next few weeks, as Washington seeks ways to improve diplomatic relations with the Lukashenko regime. This is reported by Financial Times.

According to Argus, a Belarusian company loaded 30,000 metric tons of granular potassium chloride onto a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel at the Russian port of St. Petersburg on September 15. Unloading is expected to take place on October 14 at the Port of New Orleans, according to Kpler.

The U.S. imposed sanctions on Belarus’s potash industry in 2021. Several years later, in December 2025, Washington began easing sanctions against the Belarusian potash industry. This shipment is the first since 2021, the FT notes. In March, sanctions against Belarusian potash companies were lifted.

Before the sanctions were imposed, between 2017 and 2021, an average of 635,000 metric tons of potash was exported annually from Belarus to the U.S., according to Argus data.
