Budapest has given the "green light" for the opening of Clusters 2 and 3 for Ukraine.
Hungary has agreed to Ukraine’s further progress in EU accession negotiations and to the opening of Negotiation Chapters 2, “Internal Market,” and 3, “Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth.”
This was reported to “European Truth” was told by an EU source familiar with the progress of the negotiations.
Budapest has lifted the blockade that had previously prevented Ukraine from moving on to the next stage of the procedure for opening negotiation clusters 2 and 3.
“COELA approved the screening results for clusters 2 and 3 for Ukraine, and immediately afterward, at Coreper, EU ambassadors agreed to send letters to the governments of Ukraine and Moldova regarding the submission of negotiating positions,” — said a source speaking to “European Truth.”
According to the source, the next procedural steps could be completed very quickly.
It is expected that once the Verkhovna Rada adopts legislative amendments on education in the languages of national minorities, EU member states will be able to agree on a negotiating position regarding the opening of the clusters as early as Monday, October 12.
Once the EU’s negotiating position is approved, an Ukraine–EU intergovernmental conference could be held the following day, October 13, at which Clusters 2 and 3 could be formally opened.
Previously, Hungary had blocked the approval of the screening results for these clusters for several months, preventing Ukraine from moving on to the next procedural steps for their opening. Hungary’s change in position on the issue of Kyiv’s European integration is linked to the arrival of the new Prime Minister Péter Mályar.
