A widespread outage is affecting Yandex.
In Sasovo, in Russia’s Ryazan Region, the “Sasta” machine tool factory and the large “Yandex DC Sasovo” data center were attacked. Following the strikes on the facilities, a large-scale outage affecting Yandex has been observed.
A massive fire broke out on the premises. OSINT channels reported an attack on these facilities on the night of October 8, according to “Focus”.
According to analysts, the “Sasta” plant manufactures high-precision metalworking equipment, specifically for enterprises in Russia’s military-industrial complex. Specifically, it is known that the company specializes in the production of metalworking machines, including machining centers, turning and milling complexes, and heavy-duty machines. The plant’s products are essential for the manufacture of high-precision metal parts and assemblies.
Analysts also note that the plant previously supplied specialized machine tools to enterprises belonging to the “Tactical Missile Weapons” corporation and Roscosmos. The company is also subject to international sanctions.
Major Outage at Yandex
In addition, OSINT sources reported that the “Yandex DC Sasovo” data center—one of the company’s largest—is located near “Sasta.” The facility’s stated capacity is 12 MW. Infrastructure has also been set up there to house tens of thousands of servers.
Shortly thereafter, OSINT sources also detected a major outage affecting Yandex’s servers. The disruptions affected, in particular, computing power, networks, data storage, databases, cloud services, AI, as well as security and monitoring systems.
Analysts speculate that the plant and data center may have been struck by missiles or jet-powered drones.
As a reminder, on October 6, drones carried out a massive attack on Moscow and the Moscow Region: as a result of the strikes, the “Volodarskaya” linear production and dispatch station (LPDS) caught fire.
