This comes after a group of migrants attempted to break through the Latvian-Belarusian border.

Over the next few weeks, Lithuania will deploy its armed forces to reinforce the border with Kaliningrad. This comes after a group of migrants attempted to break through the Latvian-Belarusian border.

At the same time, the Lithuanian military command’s actions are intended as a preventive measure. This was reported by Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas on his page at Facebook.

“In response to the Minister of the Interior’s request to take measures to strengthen the state border in the Kaliningrad Oblast area, I have authorized the deployment of Lithuanian military personnel to reinforce border security over the next few weeks. The order takes effect immediately,” Kaunas stated.

He also noted that the deployment of armed forces at the border is linked to the mobilization taking place in Russia. According to him, the authorities are preparing for a possible increase in the influx of “aggressive” foreigners.

“We are calm and must remain calm, but vigilant!” the country’s defense minister emphasized.

It is worth recalling that on October 5–6, members of the Latvian National Armed Forces discovered a group of 20 illegal migrants who were attempting to cross the border from Belarus. The migrants were accompanied by several armed, masked men. They threatened the Latvian military. A few hours later, the masked men invaded Latvian territory, damaged an electrical panel, and stole video cameras.
