To counter the Russian "Geran-4" and "Geran-5" drones.

The German defense company Quantum Systems plans to supply Ukraine with tens of thousands of SPYS interceptor drones, designed, in particular, to counter the Russian “Geran-4” and “Geran-5” jet drones.

This was announced by Quantum Systems Vice President Matthias Lena during a company press briefing in Berlin, according to "Ukrinform".

“Over the weekend, a LOI (letter of intent—ed.) was signed to secure a batch of tens of thousands of SPYS, which, as previously mentioned, are capable of shooting down jet-powered drones,” Lena said.

According to him, the SPYS interceptors are a joint development by Quantum Systems and its Ukrainian partner WIY, which collaborate through the joint venture Quantum WIY Industries.

The development of the new system drew on experience with the company’s products, specifically the STRILA interceptor drone, gained directly in Ukraine.

As noted by Quantum Systems, the effectiveness of countermeasures against Russian jet drones in Ukraine has recently increased significantly.

“At first, we observed a very low interception rate in Ukraine. Then it rose to over 30%, and in recent nights it has increased to over 50%,” said a company representative.

At the same time, he noted that this figure is the result of a combination of various countermeasures, not just the use of interceptor drones.

“But it’s a combination of different measures. Ukraine has also adapted, deployed various capabilities, and is making extensive use of its fleet of F-16s, which are capable of intercepting Shahed drones. And it is increasingly relying on solutions from companies like ours, which are demonstrating ever-greater effectiveness within this suite of capabilities to counter the new threat,” the company representative noted.

When scaling up SPYS production, the company can also rely on existing production facilities for STRILA interceptor drones.

“And I’m talking about several thousand per month,” — Lena said, referring to potential production volumes.

When asked when the first SPYS units from the new batch could be delivered to Ukraine, the Quantum Systems representative replied: “Thousands of units are ready for delivery as early as this year.”
