McLaren Held A Sale Of Its Formula 1 Cars

Motorsports legends competed in these events.

McLaren has put five Formula 1 race cars up for sale that were driven by motorsport legends—from Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton to the team’s current driver Lando Norris. They will be sold individually to private collectors, and McLaren itself will prepare each car before handing it over to its new owner, according to Motor1.

The collection includes two 1991 MP4/6A race cars with Honda V12 engines, a 2012 MP4/27A driven by Jenson Button, as well as Norris’s 2021 MCL35M and 2023 MCL37A. The latter is the most modern Formula 1 car ever offered for sale to private owners.

All five cars were stored at McLaren after the end of their racing careers. Prices have not yet been announced.

McLaren Racing CEO Zack Brown explained the decision as a desire to return the cars to the track.

“We’ve decided to part ways with these legendary cars because we believe that simply keeping them in storage means failing to give them the recognition they deserve,” he said.

All five cars will be sold separately, though it is possible that a single buyer could purchase the entire collection.
