Patrick Stewart really didn't know anything about the musician.
British actor Patrick Stewart once failed to recognize his co-star from the movie *Dune*—the famous musician Sting—according to Far Out Magazine (translation by Charter97.org).
During the filming of David Lynch’s 1984 sci-fi film, Stewart had no idea he was talking to the frontman of the popular rock band The Police, and mistook the band’s name for a reference to a police band
Stuart had virtually no interest in popular music and had no idea how famous his colleague was. During their conversation, he asked Sting what instrument he played. Upon hearing the reply “bass guitar,” the actor asked if the musician performed in a band.
When Sting mentioned The Police, Stewart asked again, “Do you play in a police band?” The musician immediately realized that his conversation partner really knew nothing about him.
In *Dune*, Sting played Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen—one of Paul Atreides’s main adversaries. Stuart played the role of Gurney Halleck, the protagonist’s mentor.
Patrick Stewart died on October 28, 2026, in Los Angeles at the age of 86. The actor was known worldwide for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the “Star Trek” series and Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” franchise.
