The White House is awaiting the results of the investigation.
The administration of Donald Trump has been preparing for several months for the possibility that Republicans may lose control of Congress. This is according to Reuters. The White House is looking for ways to advance the president’s agenda by bypassing lawmakers while simultaneously preparing for investigations that Democrats may launch after the midterm elections.
According to the agency’s sources, since April, high-ranking officials—including Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russell Vought—have been working on this issue alongside the President’s legal counsel. Their main task is to determine which decisions regarding immigration, tariff policy, housing construction, and government spending Trump can make without congressional approval.
A source familiar with the preparations clarified that federal agencies have already submitted their proposals and legal opinions to the White House regarding measures that do not require new legislation. Special attention is being paid to the budget: Vought is examining which priority programs can continue to be funded using funds previously allocated by Congress.
Trump himself has made it clear that, should the balance of power shift, he is prepared to actively exercise his veto power. In an interview with the New York Post’s “Pod Force One” podcast, he stated that if Republicans lose their majority, he would block unwelcome decisions for one or two months and then, possibly, begin seeking compromises with the Democrats.
