Clinton Harshly Criticized Trump For His Selfishness

The U.S. president's policies have hit Americans' wallets.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton sharply criticized Donald Trump for his self-centered projects, managerial incompetence, and self-serving policies. He did so at a campaign rally in support of a Senate candidate from Mississippi.
According to Clinton, any candidate for the Senate must ensure that people can build a decent life, which is “far from President Trump’s views.” He admitted that at times he barely recognizes the country he loves and mentioned Trump’s “ego projects.” “I saw this recently. He wants to build a park on top of a bridge that will block the view of the Washington National Cemetery from across the street,” Clinton said. According to him, such a project will cost a fortune because, for Trump, it has to be bigger than similar projects.
Clinton attributed high gas prices to a poorly thought-out attack on Iran. He also highlighted Trump’s longstanding obsession with tariffs. Clinton said he has known Trump for about 25 years, and even back then it was clear that Trump did not understand the laws of economics. Trump believed that by imposing high tariffs on all imports, the U.S. could fill its budget and do away with domestic taxes. Clinton explained to him that importers would not “just swallow” the tariffs but would pass them on to the final price paid by American consumers. “And he, just like now, didn’t hear what he didn’t want to hear,” Clinton recalls.
In conclusion, Clinton returned to the personal motive behind the president’s actions: “Trump thinks mainly of himself.” As an example, he cited Trump’s idea to rename the famous Kennedy Center simply because it was renovated during Trump’s presidency.
