The Ukrainian Armed Forces Turned The Tide Near Kupiansk

An expert assessed the changes over the past year.
The section of the front along the Oskol River, from Liman to Kupyansk, has been Ukraine’s most successful this year. A reputable OSINT expert reports the respected OSINT expert Klemens Molin.
A year ago, the Russian army was close to capturing Kupiansk, advancing toward Borova and Liman, and had split the southern part of this front sector into two sections.
A year later, the situation in the Kupiansk area has remained virtually unchanged: the city remains partially a gray zone, but Ukraine has recaptured several positions near Borova and launched a successful counteroffensive near Liman, halting the advance of Russian troops in this sector and fully securing the city.
Currently, the front has stabilized in the southern sector of this sector near Lyman. Ukrainian forces continue to consolidate their positions in the forests east of the city and will establish defensive lines along the Zherebets River for the winter.
Further north, in the Borovaya area and east of it, the Ukrainian military carried out a series of operations that went virtually unnoticed. There is not yet enough evidence to draw definitive conclusions; however, based on available data, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have gradually advanced and recaptured several previously lost positions.
The situation remains more complicated in the Kupiansk area. Nevertheless, an operation in the tunnels north of the city halted the flow of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups and infantry units attempting to infiltrate the city. At the same time, most of Kupyansk, including its eastern districts, remains a gray zone.
Thus, in 2026, the situation in this sector improved significantly. Next year, I expect new offensive operations, especially north of Borovaya. Their goal will be to further push Russian troops back from Kupyansk.
