Tusk Stated That Poland Thwarted A Provocation By Russia At The Border

A special operation began yesterday in the border provinces.

Polish border guards likely thwarted a provocation on the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. According to him, a special operation began yesterday in the border provinces with the aim of preventing possible incidents, reports onet.pl.

Opening the cabinet meeting, Tusk said that for some time now he has been receiving intelligence from Polish and allied intelligence agencies: in the first half of November, acts of sabotage, serious provocations, or sabotage organized by hostile services are possible along the border with Russia. He said he had heard similar warnings from the commander of NATO and U.S. forces in Europe Alex Grinkevich during his visit to Warsaw.

“Having received more precise information that incidents could occur in the first half of November—including an incursion by armed individuals into Polish territory— we decided to deploy significant police forces to reinforce the Border Guard, including counterterrorism units,” the prime minister said.

Tusk thanked everyone who had been preparing for such scenarios in recent days. According to him, shortly after midnight, the Border Guard informed him of suspicious activity on the Polish-Russian border in the north: people with flashlights had been spotted there. Forces and resources were mobilized promptly, and the attempted provocation was successfully prevented, “if indeed such an attempt took place,” he emphasized, adding that it would never be possible to confirm this completely. However, according to the border guards’ assessment, the situation required mobilization and on-site monitoring.

The prime minister warned that escalation on Russia’s part could continue. “It cannot be said that we managed to avoid any dramatic events today, but we must remain extremely focused and mobilized to prevent potential acts of sabotage or provocations not only at the border but also within the country,” Tusk said.
