Cardiologists Have Identified The Healthiest Way To Brew Coffee For The Heart

This beverage contains fewer substances that raise cholesterol levels.

Not all methods of making coffee have the same effect on health. As stated in 750g, there is a very simple way to limit the content of certain substances that can raise cholesterol levels.

The results of a Norwegian study showed that mortality rates were lower among consumers of filtered coffee than among those who drank unfiltered coffee.

“This difference is due not only to the amount of coffee consumed, but also to the method of preparation. The main culprit is cafestol—a compound naturally found in the oils of coffee beans. Together with caffeols, it can contribute to an increase in LDL cholesterol levels when it enters the beverage. This is precisely where the paper filter plays an important role,” the article explained.

According to the scientists, by trapping a significant portion of these fatty substances before they enter the body, the filter substantially reduces their amount. Thus, the resulting coffee contains much less cafestol than coffee prepared using methods that allow more oils to pass through.

Filtered coffee is the best choice for your heart

European guidelines note that unfiltered coffee varieties, such as brewed, Greek, or Turkish coffee, contain higher levels of cafestol and caffeols, which raise “bad” cholesterol levels. Some espresso-based drinks may also contain them in significant amounts.

“At the same time, passing through a paper filter significantly reduces their levels, making filtered coffee an attractive option for those watching their cholesterol levels. A Norwegian study also found that people who drink one to four cups of filtered coffee a day have the lowest mortality rates,” the publication adds.

However, this does not mean that coffee itself protects against cardiovascular disease. It refers to a correlation that was identified over a long period of time. Other factors, such as diet, physical activity, smoking, or overall health, remain decisive.

“Furthermore, European guidelines indicate that three to four cups a day is likely a safe amount. So if you drink several cups of coffee every day or are monitoring your cholesterol levels, a paper filter remains the simplest solution. It doesn’t turn coffee into a miracle drink, but it helps limit the amount of certain compounds that can worsen your lipid profile. “Among French press coffee, Turkish coffee, and filtered coffee, the latter is currently considered the healthiest for the cardiovascular system,” the publication concluded.
