The ceremony to present the mandate will take place today.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that he has tasked the leader of the "Yashar" party, Gadi Eizenkot, with forming the country's new government.

This was reported by N12News.

The President’s Office noted that in recent days, the head of state has held talks with representatives of the political establishment and also met with Benjamin Netanyahu and Gadi Eizenkot.

He informed both of them of his intention to task Eizenkot with forming a government.

The ceremony to confer the mandate will take place today, November 8, at 5:00 p.m. at the President’s Residence. Afterward, Eizenkot will have 28 days to form a government.

It is also noted that the president has the right to grant him an additional period of up to 14 days.

It is important to note that Eizenkot had previously secured the support of 67 Knesset members to form a new government. His candidacy was backed by all the opposition Zionist parties, as well as two Arab parties.

In addition, the day before, Eisenkot put forward four clear conditions for forming a government:

recognition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state;

acceptance of the values enshrined in the Declaration of Independence;

mandatory military service for all;

recognition of Hamas as a terrorist organization, as well as a commitment to dismantle its military and administrative authority.

In effect, Eisenkot has laid out the key conditions for future coalition agreements. Whether new members can be brought into the coalition will depend on the willingness of other political forces to accept these conditions.
