The End Of The "Shahedov" Era: Ukraine Has Created A Laser Against Drones

Engineers have unveiled the Sunray laser system.
Ukraine is creating its own "anti-drone dome," for which it has already developed laser air defense and cheap interceptor drones. It will make it possible to counter swarms of "Shaheds" during massive Russian bombardment.
It is reported by The Atlantic.
In particular, engineers have presented a laser system Sunray, which is able to shoot down drones with a beam. The development was created in about two years and for much less money than similar projects in other countries.
"The laser rotated as its cameras followed the target. The operator shouted: "Fire!" Within seconds, the drone began to burn as if struck by invisible lightning, and then fell to the ground in an arc of fire," the publication's reporter wrote.
Pavel Elizarov, deputy commander of the Air Force, said the difference in the cost of such weapons is a result of the war with Russia.
"Many American companies are driven by money. For them, it's a job. They do it. They get paid. We have another factor - the need to survive. That's why we are moving faster," he emphasized.
Cheap drones printed on a 3D printer
In addition, Ukrainian manufacturers have created the P1-Sun interceptor drone printed on a 3D printer, which has already been put into mass production.
It is noted that these drones have already been used to destroy more than 1,000 targets, including more than 700 Shaheds. By the end of 2026, the AFU will be able to deploy them across the country for instant launch as soon as radar detects enemy drones.
"Ukraine will soon be able to neutralize one of the biggest threats to its security: swarms of Russian drones that continue to terrorize civilians and destroy the country's infrastructure," the article said.
Besides laser air defense and interceptor drones, Ukraine's "anti-drone dome" may include carbon fiber clones of Russian missiles and wheeled robots armed with machine gun turrets.
The top priorities of Ukrainian developments will include ensuring the safety of troops and supply lines in the combat zone, as well as protecting the population living near the front line.
