What the FT wrote about elections and a referendum in Ukraine
The Financial Times, citing Ukrainian and Western officials as well as people "familiar with the situation," wrote that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky could allegedly announce elections and a referendum on a peace deal in February.
Mol, Kiev began planning a presidential election and a referendum on a peace deal with Russia after pressure from the United States.
According to the publication's interlocutors, Zelensky allegedly intends to announce this on February 24, the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion.
The piece claims that the administration of US President Donald Trump has demanded that Ukraine hold both votes by May 15, threatening otherwise to deprive Ukraine of security guarantees.
Preparations for the elections in Ukraine
Reminder, after Trump's statements about the need for elections, Zelensky noted that they could be held in 60-90 days after ensuring security and amending legislation.
