The Pentagon plans to send the second aircraft carrier strike group of the U.S. Navy to the Middle East. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to three unnamed American officials. According to the publication, the US military is preparing for a possible operation against Iran.

The WSJ sources emphasized that US President Donald Trump has not yet officially ordered the deployment, and plans could change. The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush is currently completing exercises off the coast of Virginia. If deployed, it would join the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is already in the region.

One official said the War Department is preparing the aircraft carrier for deployment in two weeks. Another source said the redeployment order could be given within hours.
