Lukashenko Fears Being In A Neighboring Cell With Maduro

A new version of an old joke.

Alexander Lukashenko will not be able to participate in the "Peace Council" meeting (what a grief). And here's why (just for laughs).

Summary of previous episodes:

On January 16, Donald Trump signed the Charter of the "Peace Council" (de facto personal club, which includes heads of some states, often with very ambiguous, not to say more, reputation).

January 20, Alexander Lukashenko joined this party.

The first meeting of the "Peace Council," according to some media and politicians, is scheduled for February 19 in Washington. But it has not been officially announced so far - although the said date is a week away.

Probably, Trump himself is not sure what he will give the prime minister on that day: given the refusal of a number of European leaders to participate in the "Council," there is a risk of being in marginal company and failing miserably.

But Natalya Eismont, who acts as Alexander Lukashenko's mouthpiece, has already announced that her boss will not fly to America. At the same time, "logistical difficulties" caused by the EU sanctions were mentioned.

Mikola Bugai noted that, since the flight radius of Lukashenko's Boeing allows him to go to Washington via the Arctic, the closure of the EU airspace has nothing to do with it. The columnist sees another reason: "A vassal can't afford to be where his master won't be."

It's quite a working version. The Kremlin, by the way, said that Russia will not be represented at the first meeting at all. But the ruler of Belarus is sending his foreign minister there.

But the most amusing thing is the way Eismont formulated the main reason for Lukashenko's refusal of the rare opportunity to visit Washington:

"Unfortunately, we received it (the invitation - S.) late, our work schedule for this period was already planned. Yes, we would have loved to visit the United States, but there are issues that cannot be postponed."

This is literally a remake of an anecdote from the end of the last century:

"Hollywood calls a little-known Moscow actor and invites him to shoot in a new blockbuster Steven Spielberg:

- The role, however, not the main, but for the period of filming you will have a great villa, a car and a fee of five thousand dollars a day.

- Of course, of course, I agree! When is the shooting? - says the actor.

- In December.

- No! I can not. I have Christmas trees in December!"

It will be very interesting to observe what such "urgent matters" Lukashenko will do from February 17 to 21. A meeting with another Russian governor? Inspection of cowsheds in Gomel region? A meeting on how to improve what was ruined before?

While not denying as possible reasons neither dependence on the Kremlin, nor the financial aspect (they may ask him to give some money for Gaza), I will add one more version to the general piggy bank.

Alexander Lukashenko is simply afraid of being in the next cell with Nicolas Maduro.

The scenario does not look realistic, to put it mildly. But the question is not how likely such a development really is. Fear is great, and even 1% (and when dealing with Trump, it is difficult to rule out anything completely) can make Lukashenko refuse such a tempting offer.

This is nothing more than a guess, which may cause a thoughtful reader to smile sarcastically. However, the official version is a laughing stock.
