U.S. Puts Alibaba On List Of Companies Helping China's Military

Its stock is down 5%.

The Pentagon has added Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, Baidu Inc. and BYD Co. to its list of companies assisting the Chinese military, Bloomberg reports.

The move, the agency notes, could pose problems for U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to China scheduled for April, especially given Alibaba's importance. Trump's meeting with Chinese President Si Jinping in Beijing is expected to discuss plans to export chips from Nvidia Corp. H200 to China, and Alibaba is among the companies that may bid to buy them, Bloomberg explains.

The list also includes RoboSense Technology Co. and wireless router maker TP-Link Technologies Co.

Alibaba called the Pentagon's inclusion on the list baseless, saying it "is not a Chinese military company." "We will take all available legal actions against attempts to misrepresent our company," it stressed.

Alibaba shares fell 5 percent in additional trading on Feb. 13. Baidu shares were down 4.5%.

The updated list could spark Beijing's displeasure after a trade truce reached by Xi and Trump in October, Reuters noted. In December, U.S. lawmakers sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth calling for a number of Chinese technology companies to be added to the list, including artificial intelligence developer DeepSeek, smartphone maker Xiaomi and electronic display maker BOE Technology.
