The Russian dictator wanted to make Ukraine Russian - but it became European.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has suffered a strategic defeat and achieved none of his goals in the war against Ukraine.
This was stated by Finnish President Alexander Stubb during a speech at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, February 13.
"He (Putin) wanted to make Ukraine Russian - and it became European. He wanted to prevent NATO expansion - and he got Finland and Sweden to join. He wanted to reduce our defense spending - and it is growing to 5%," The Guardian.
The Finnish president noted that Russia is losing in purely military aspect as well. In particular, he talked about the fact that the territorial gains of the occupiers are insignificant, but Ukraine eliminated 34,000 Russian soldiers in just one month - December 2025 - and the Russians could not compensate for these losses with a new set.
In response to a Ukrainian journalist's question about how to take advantage of Finland's experience in the fight against Russia, Stubb said: "I will not give you advice, but I think you will win this war."
