It would effectively turn the Suvalk Corridor into a "borderless outpost" of NATO.
Poland and Lithuania intend to organize a joint training ground in the area of Suwalki corridor, located near the Kaliningrad region. This is reported by The National Interest.
"A huge joint cross-border training ground will appear, which will actually turn the Suwalki Corridor into a 'borderless outpost' of NATO, manned by Polish and Lithuanian troops," the material says.
The publication writes that in late January, during a trilateral meeting in Vilnius, where Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Polish leader Karol Nawrocki were present, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda suggested "strengthening security" in the region, which is often referred to as the alliance's "Achilles' heel."
It is specified that Lithuania has already invested €100 million in the creation of a new brigade-level training ground in Kapčemestis, located in the heart of the Suwałki Corridor.
"The novelty of Lithuania's proposal is that it would be like an invitation to Poland to expand the facility so that it would be located on both sides of the border," the publication reported.
The Suwalki Corridor is a land plot of about 100 kilometers long, located on the border between Lithuania and Poland, which also shares common borders with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
