FT: Rubio 'last Minute' Skipped Meeting With European Leaders In Munich

The meeting discussed the Russian Federation's war in Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio missed a meeting with European leaders on the margins of the Munich Security Conference due to a tight schedule. This is reported by Financial Times quoting a US official. The meeting, which the U.S. was warned about skipping "at the last minute," discussed Russia's war in Ukraine.

"The Secretary of State will not participate in the meeting in the Berlin format on Ukraine because of the large number of meetings taking place at the same time," - said the interlocutor of the publication. He emphasized, however, that Marco Rubio is involved in the issues of Russia's war in Ukraine during many of his meetings at the conference.

Nevertheless, the Secretary of State's omission from the meeting was taken by European leaders as evidence of Washington's "waning interest" in the issues of resolving Russia's war in Ukraine, the publication noted.

One of the European officials called Rubio's absence "madness." Another noted the lack of substance in the talks without a U.S. representative. The meeting was attended by the heads of Germany, Poland and Finland, as well as the European Commission.
