Corruption in the energy sector

Reminder, in November last year the NABU reported the exposure of a large-scale corruption scheme in Energoatom.

The investigation established the activities of an organized group, which, according to law enforcers, influenced decisions in the state energy sector, in particular in the JSC "NAEK Energoatom", and demanded from contractors illegal benefits in the amount of 10-15% of the value of contracts.

The defendants in the case include officials and businessmen, in particular, NKREKU member Sergey Pushkar, businessman Timur Mindich, former executive director for physical protection of Energoatom Dmitry Basov and ex-deputy chairman of FGIU Igor Mironyuk.

According to the investigation, the participants in the scheme influenced personnel decisions, purchases and financial operations of the company.

The case also involved former Energy Minister German Galushchenko.

Subsequently, Galushchenko, who had previously been suspended from his duties as justice minister, was dismissed from his post by 323 votes. Together with him, MPs dismissed then Energy Minister Svetlana Hrynchuk.

On November 21, Galushchenko, according to RBC-Ukraine sources, was interrogated by the NABU.
