Croatia Denied Hungary And Slovakia Transit Of Russian Oil

Zagreb called on Budapest and Bratislava to stop profiting from the war.

Croatia has refused to transport Russian oil for Hungary and Slovakia, saying that buying crude from the Russian Federation is support for the war against Ukraine.

Hope of Hungary and Slovakia to find a workaround to buy cheap oil from the Russian Federation has failed. Croatia has refused to help them in the transportation of raw materials from Russia.

The point has been set by Croatian Economy Minister Ante Šušnjar. He published an official statement on the matter in X.

The Croatian authorities rejected the request of Hungary and Slovakia to ensure the transit of Russian oil through the Adria pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto made a corresponding appeal on February 15 after talks with Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova. According to him, Budapest and Bratislava sent a joint letter to Zagreb emphasizing that "the security of a country's energy supply should never be an ideological issue."

Sušnjar publicly responded to the statement by making it clear that Zagreb has no intention of promoting continued dependence on Russian oil.

"No one should be left without fuel... But the Adriatic pipeline is ready, so there is no longer any technical justification for any EU country to be tied to Russian oil. A barrel of oil bought from Russia may seem cheaper to some countries, but it helps finance the war and attacks on the Ukrainian people. It is time to stop this war profiteering," Shushnyar wrote.
