The president's resignation is being sought because of his meetings with Chinese businessmen.

Peru's parliament has passed a motion for a vote of no confidence in President José Hery to remove him from office. A recording of the meeting was published on the congress's YouTube channel.

Forty-one lawmakers voted in favor of considering the motion for the vote of no confidence, 18 lawmakers voted against, and four other lawmakers abstained.

The acting president of parliament, Fernando Rospillosi, said the motion was approved for consideration.

The president's resignation is being sought because of his meetings with Chinese businessmen, which were not officially listed on the Peruvian head's schedule.

A vote of no confidence requires a simple majority of votes in the 130-seat Congress.
