The enterprise produces components for cruise and ballistic missiles.

Strike drones attacked the city of Cheboksary in the Russian republic of Chuvashia on the night of February 18. Locals counted at least three drones that were hovering near a local defense company, writes "Focus".

A power infrastructure facility in Cheboksary was hit, according to the monitoring telegram channel "Supernova+".

"Chuvashia ... Cheboksary ... lit up an energy facility near JSC VNIIR-Progress," reads the caption to the video, which shows the aftermath of a drone attack on Cheboksary.

The Russian publication Astra writes that local residents spotted at least three drones that attacked the VNIIR-Progress defense enterprise.

"ASTRA analyzed eyewitness footage of smoke after the attack, the photo was taken near houses on 9th Pyatiletka Avenue. It is unknown what exactly is smoking, but this place is just in the neighborhood of the store "Romashka" mentioned by the residents. It is about 800-900 meters to the VNIIR plant from this place, according to ASTRA analysis," the report says.

The governor of Chuvashia Oleg Nikolaev confirmed the drone attack on Cheboksary, but noted that there was allegedly no significant damage.

"This morning a drone attack was recorded on the territory of Chuvashia in the Novoyuzhny District of Cheboksary and in the Cheboksary District (Yaushi). The main thing at the moment. There are no casualties. There is no destruction of capital structures. Damage to several cars was recorded. All emergency and operational services are working on the ground. Nothing threatens the safety of residents, the situation is under control," Nikolaev wrote.

The plant "VNIIR-Progress" produces navigation equipment and components for cruise and ballistic missiles, so it is a legitimate target for the AFU.

The AFU has already attacked this military enterprise several times. For example, this enterprise in Cheboksary was hit by Ukrainian UAVs on the night of November 26, 2025. This information was confirmed by the General Staff of the AFU. Several explosions were detected on the territory of the factory.

In Cheboksary, in particular, GNSS receivers and antennas for GLONASS, GPS and Galileo satellite systems are made. They are used in attack drones, Iskander-M and Kalibr missiles, as well as in modules for guided bombs.
